Changing Outcomes

Among the outcomes Communities Caring for Families strives to change by supporting “family focused teams”:

  • 59% of Arizona youth served by both the foster care and juvenile justice systems have educational deficiencies; 44% have special education needs; and 23% have a diagnosed or suspected learning disability.

 

  • 61% of Arizona young adults served by both the foster care and juvenile justice systems have been diagnosed with severe emotional, behavioral and/or mental health issues.

 

  • 80% of Arizona young adults served by both the foster care and juvenile justice will have substance abuse issues.

 

  • One in five Arizona “aging out” foster young adults ends up homeless.

 

  • One in four Arizona “aging out” foster care youth will be incarcerated as adults.

 

  • 58% will graduate from high school compared with 87% for non-foster care youth.

 

  • 3% will graduate from college, compared with 28% for non-foster youth. 

 

  • 73% of young people in the foster care system will have at least one charge before the court.
